About

The Artist

Maya Francine Thomas

Maya Francine Thomas is a Juilliard-trained actor, writer, voice artist, and educator whose work bridges theater, movement, music, storytelling, and emotional truth.

Originally from Oregon and shaped by years in New York's theater community, Maya's performance work spans classical theater, contemporary drama, devised work, music-driven performance, and original storytelling.

Deeply influenced by language, embodiment, humor, jazz, human contradiction, and the transformative power of story, Maya is drawn to work that explores resilience, intimacy, identity, longing, liberation, and what it means to remain deeply human.

In addition to performance, Maya develops original theatrical work, including Billie: A Conversation with Lady Day — her solo performance inspired by the life, voice, and spirit of Billie Holiday. A piece about survival, song, and the cost of telling the truth out loud. Part theater, part love letter to a woman who gave everything to the music. Her ongoing project Proud Flesh continues that thread: memory, womanhood, survival, humor, voice, and the body as archive.

As an educator and creative mentor, Maya works with actors, artists, and storytellers seeking deeper presence, emotional freedom, and truthful expression. Her approach combines classical training, movement, intuitive text work, vocal exploration, and embodied storytelling practices to help unlock what is most alive and authentic in performance.

At the center of Maya's work is a belief in story as transformation — a way to reconnect people to themselves, to one another, and to the deeper humanity we share.

Written Word

Poetry

Written under the name Francy T.

Poems about memory, womanhood, survival, love, light, the body, and the small hours.

Small observations that refused to stay quiet.

Small Hours

I am reaching out for the small hours You wake up and go ahead and thank your queen in the castle that you ain't seen on land a joint you ain't walk-throughed And wonder what night laid down his arms What song is playing in his head? I just keep hearing in my head the word baby Baaeby On the night he didn't want you to come to harms
— Francy T.

What I Know Now Is —

time doesn't equal volume. Years can pass and still leave you empty. You can give everything and be given almost nothing that holds. Longevity is not proof of love. And quiet doesn't mean it's peaceful. Getting bigger is easy. Growing up is something else. I can go anywhere I want — by myself. And if it gets dark, I don't have to bring the light. I can stop. I can wait. Even though I cannot see it, I know the light is near — because I am still here.
— Francy T.

strawberry stain

nectar noncommittal — it meant to stay, but forgot to decide everything else goes dull after storm the room — forgetting everyone air doesn't argue anymore standing there as if never crowded
— Francy T.

I Still Do —

It just came through me Devastating I miss How? Hold me close I keep naming it so it will be alive But it isn't and I know that I still do
— Francy T.

Untitled

This life of waiting for tomorrow was never as romantic as imagined. Tomorrow kept borrowing from today. I thought growing up meant arriving. But growing up is a haunting. Every younger version keeps knocking. Will you finally arrive? ... Shhh. She is. She's coming home.
— Francy T

Past Us

STARS SEE ROCKS and dark grey clouds THE SOFTEST FEATHERS to fly and to land I miss … something PITS OF CHERRIES choke me up wrapping rainbows around my teeth the warmest beautiful sunlight shining past us how can I miss a husband who isn't a husband and doesn't want to hold me close DROP ME at the bottom of it all FIRE AND ICE
— Francy T.
Coaching & Presence Work

Work With Maya

Maya Francine Thomas — coaching

Presence. Voice. Story.

Whether you're preparing for an audition, stepping into a courtroom, delivering a keynote, leading a room, or simply finding your way back to yourself — I'd love to hear what you're working on.

Every collaboration begins with a conversation.

Drawing on Juilliard training, decades of professional performance, movement, voice, Alexander Technique, and embodied storytelling, I help people communicate with clarity, confidence, and humanity.

Together we'll discover what is already true — and make sure everyone else can see it too.

Let's begin.

"Whatever it is you want to do, I'll help you own it.
I'll help others see it.
I'll help you see it in yourself."
